Hyunji Kwon is a Professor of Sociology at Seoul National University. Before joining SNU in 2025, she worked at King's College London and the Korea Labor Institute. Her research examines labor market structures and employment relations in the context of industrial and organizational transformation. She has conducted extensive empirical studies on workplace and gender inequality, developing frameworks that connect relational mechanisms to wage systems and organizational practices. Hyunji’s work also investigates changes in global value chain governance and their implications for labor, with particular attention to the roles of Korean first-tier suppliers. Her research has been widely published in leading domestic and international journals. More recently, she has begun exploring the digital and energy transitions of industry, focusing on the labor nexus in the automotive ecosystem and its implications for labor market inequality in Korea and across Asia.
