Abstract

A Model of Labor Supply of Low-Income Families on Québec

The purpose of this article is to present some methodological aspects (sampling and model building) of a research undertaken by the authors and others on the work behaviour of low-income families of Québec. It gives also a summary of the principal characteristics of our sample of 510 families. Our model is based on the neoclassical theory of labour supply and possesses the following characteristics :

1) it is intertemporal, 2) it is intrafamilial ; it takes into explicit account of 3) the work at home of husband and wife 4) the nonpecuniary advantages of market work 5) the public regimes like income taxation, social assistance and unemployment insurance.
